AMBIENT NEWS - how light connects us to our users

An idea of the internet of things, a cue via Whatsapp and a workshop with numerous interested parties - all that ends in a prototype bringing people all over Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg news via light and screen into their homes today. The lecture gives an idea of how we as researchers work closely together with our test-users in the Google DNI research project AMBIENT NEWS.

  • 15:30 - 16:00 | Ally Tubis,
    VP Data Science, Diply

Working cross-functionally with Editorial, Distribution and Revenue teams

Based on her experience leading data initiatives at news and evergreen publishers (CNN, Rodale brands including Men's Health and Runner's World, Gizmodo Media Group, The Onion, and now Diply), Ally Tubis will discuss how using data driven insights and collaborating cross-functionally helped successfully grow engagement, audience and revenue. Data can play a key role in bringing Editorial, Distribution and Revenue teams together, and in shaping strategy without compromising editorial independence.

  • Vita Sönke Schierer

Soenke Schierer, 33 years old, is a trained technical journalist. After his academic studies and an education at the editorial department of a technical-maritime trade journal, he worked for almost four years as an online editor for the news-website shz.de, before moving to the research lab of mh:n MEDIEN and NOZ MEDIEN located in Hamburg. He is responsible for the research project AMBIENT NEWS, which tries to find out whether classical news content can be brought to private households via the internet of things.
