Born in Frankfurt/Main. 1989-90 Paris (Sorbonne), 1990-96 studies of journalism and political science in Dortmund and Edinburgh. 1992-93 practical year at “Berliner Zeitung”, afterwards freelancer for print, online and electronic media. 1998-2001 dissertation with a PhD grant of the land North Rhine-Westphalia. Doctorate 2001 at Dortmund University. 2001-2004 editor at “Tagesthemen”, ARD German TV. Lecturer at Erfurt, Münster and Leipzig University. Visiting fellow at "Annenberg School of Journalism", University of Southern California (USC). 2010-2012: Temporary professorship at Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen. Member of the project team of local journalism of the Federal Agency of Civic Education for five years. Since 2012: Professor of innovations in Journalism at Universität der Bundeswehr München; head of Journalism Institute, vice-dean of the faculty of Business Administration.

The field of media is witnessing a lot of dynamics. It is essential to take up innovations from the industry and to realize them target-oriented for the particular company. But: What exactly are innovations? How do they work - or not? Media innovations are in the core of the lecture. In which ways, decisions for innovations are taken, in which ways innovation processes work and what are requirements for the success of innovations? Which challenges have to be faced – and in which ways it is possible for a newsroom to work innovatively? International research results are presented. But the question is, in which way academic research can give impulses for the daily work in the newsroom? How is it possible how to deal with innovations in a way that they help to reach the particular aims of the company?
