Experience XR: New Strategic Partnership with EDFVR

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) – XR for short – have now established themselves firmly in the world of media. At the DCX Digital Content Expo, news and content suppliers will get an intensive insight into current trends and projects in this field thanks to a new cooperation with the First German Association for Virtual Reality (EDFVR).

In 2017, the market research company Statista already recorded 90 million active users of virtual reality. If the growth rate continues like this, 171 million people could already use immersive media this year – almost twice as many as before. Since VR glasses are also becoming more and more technically sophisticated, VR products are a promising field of action for news media and content producers.

VR Storytelling becomes more professional

"Currently, VR storytelling is rapidly becoming more professional. Production costs are falling, but the makers are constantly having to think about new, intelligent concepts," stresses Bolela Likafu. As a board member of the First German Business Association for Immersive Media (EDFVR), which we were able to win as a new partner, he will soon be presenting the latest versions of XR technology at the Expo in Berlin. In a panel at the DCX Conference Stage and on the new DCX Experience Area powered by EDFVR, visitors can immerse themselves in the narrative worlds with VR glasses from Samsung and a VR Cinema.

DCX Conference Stage: A holistic VR View

On the first day of the Expo, the topic will be presented in 15-minute short lectures at the DCX Conference Stage (Tuesday, 9 October 2018, 4 - 5.15 p.m.). Prof. Christian Malterer from the Mediadesign Hochschule Berlin, and Torsten Fell, CEO of the EDFVR (in German), will give a holistic insight into the development of technology and narrative strategies. Sönke Kirchhof, CEO & Founder of INVR, will explain how journalism is possible with VR, while Andreas Zeitler, CEO & Founder of Vuframe, will outline a practical example in the form of an app from the Siemens Campus Erlangen. Sven Haeberlein, CEO & Founder of Trotzkind, will give a concluding outlook on where the storytelling in VR could develop.

New: DCX Experience Area powered by EDFVR

The high-quality programme will continue on the second day of the Expo at the new DCX Experience Area. The morning session (Wednesday, 10 October 2018, 10.15 am to 11.45 am, in German) will be moderated by Jörg Hunke, editor in charge of the network page of the Berliner Zeitung. Philipp Wenning from INVR will talk about "Storytelling in the high-tech age". Afterwards Prof. Christian Malterer from the Mediadesign Hochschule Berlin will bridge the gap between Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence and future prognoses like a super-fast net.

After the lunch break, Bolela Likafu from EDFVR will take over as moderator (Wednesday, October 10, 2018, 14 to 15.30). Among others, Michael Hooper, Managing Director of Text International, reports on "Transcreation in Immersive Media": He will explain why language is important in cross-cultural VR.
